Why We Do It

Results of Successful Partnership

Pennsylvania

Values into Action-PA offers services and support in partnership with more than 40 individuals who live throughout eastern Pennsylvania. Each person is unique and the services provided reflect his or her take on life. Here are a few of our Pennsylvania stories:

  • Jean lives in her own apartment in Center City Philadelphia, only a few blocks from the law firm where she has worked for over 15 years. She was the first person to work with Values Into Action in 2005, and since then, she has moved three times based on her personal preferences. Jean has selected her own personal assistants to help arrange her busy work and travel schedules, get to appointments and write her autobiography.
  • Stephen and his parents chose Values Into Action when he could find no one else to help him move out of a psychiatric facility. With his leadership, we were able to help Stephen find his first home. Now he lives in northeast Philadelphia, close to his parents and family friends. Stephen’s personal assistants help him safely manage his home and daily routine so that he can live the life he has designed for himself, surrounded by people who know and care about him.
  • Jackie has been accepting support with Values Into Action since she was a senior in high school. We helped Jackie secure a volunteer position at a local nursing home, and when she later found a job, we helped her learn the ins and outs of the bus system so that she could get to work on her own. Now she is attending college at Temple University and learning to ride the train!
  • Whitney’s parents helped her choose Values Into Action while she was living in their home. Her personal assistants helped her take care of herself and have fun in the community and in her job at the local Regal Theater. We now help Whitney live in her own home — a great apartment her parents helped her rent.

New Jersey

Values Into Action-NJ offers independent support coordination to more than 200 people living in institutions, as well as those who are living at home with their families while waiting for more comprehensive services. Here are a few of our New Jersey success stories:

  • Harold lived at New Lisbon Developmental Center for more than 50 years. He shared a room with Gary, who became his friend over the years. Harry had always wanted a home of his own, and when he had the opportunity to move, Values Into Action NJ helped him make a plan and identify what he needed to be successful in the community. The best part? When Gary’s family learned that Harry was moving, they helped Gary arrange to move, too — with Harry! They now share a home in the community!
  • Anthony lives at home with his parents, who have always made sure all of his needs are met. Now that his parents are growing older, Values Into Action-NJ stepped in to help create Anthony’s service plan and identify what kinds of support would both enhance Anthony’s life and give his parents some needed respite. Values Into Action-NJ was able to help Anthony and his family find and hire a personal assistant who now helps Anthony with everyday needs and having fun outside of his home.
  • Tim lives at home with his parents in Philadelphia. He wants to work and enjoy activities in the community. Values Into Action-NJ worked with Tim and his family to create a plan that incorporated these desires into his life. A service provider is now helping Tim find a job and hang out in the community.

Let our knowledge, experience and commitment to building a world where everyone belongs be your guide to designing and living the life you want.
